The Carbon Cycle: Storing & Sustaining Our Future

Trees play a vital role in combating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it in their fibres. This carbon remains locked within the tree’s wood throughout its lifespan, only being released when the wood decomposes or is burned. By implementing sustainable forest management practices and replanting harvested areas, we can maintain a continuous cycle of carbon capture.

Measuring Carbon Sequestration with FullCAM

To measure the carbon sequestration of growing plantations, we utilise the Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM), a sophisticated software developed by CSIRO. FullCAM accounts for carbon emissions from activities such as harvesting and fires, ensuring that our carbon abatement calculations are accurate and conservative.

MWO’s Participation in the ACCU Carbon Credit Program

The ACCU Scheme, administered by the Clean Energy Regulator (CER), is designed to encourage carbon abatement activities across a diverse range of industries. MWO leverages the Plantation Forestry methodology and has registered projects in Western Australia and South Australia, utilising Schedule 1 to 3 of the method.

Plantation Forestry Method Schedules

Carbon 1

Carbon Compliance

At MWO, our plantation forestry projects adhere to rigorous eligibility and legislative requirements set by CER. After approval, each project undergoes comprehensive audits before the project proponent can claim ACCUs.
We are committed to delivering high integrity carbon abatement through expert plantation management practices.

Carbon Quality

  • Optimised Species Selection: Carefully matching plant species to the soil composition and climate of each area, using only the highest quality seed stock.

  • Expert Forestry Management: Our experienced foresters manage the forest to maximise wood fibre output thus ensuring the highest possible carbon abatement.

  • By combining scientific precision with industry expertise, we deliver sustainable, high-impact forestry solutions.

Carbon Integrity

Our plantation projects provide a wide range of environmental and social benefits, including:

  • Soil Health Improvements: Reducing soil salinity and enhancing land productivity.

  • Biodiversity Conservation: Preserving remnant native vegetation and establishing environmental plantings that serve as vital habitats for native wildlife.

  • Ecological Connectivity: Increasing habitat connectivity, fostering a balanced and biodiverse ecosystem.

  • Community Impact: Delivering socio-economic benefits to local and state communities, supporting sustainable development and job opportunities.

Our commitment extends beyond plantations and carbon abatement to enhancing ecosystems and contributing to communities.

Carbon Offset Opportunities

As safeguard mechanism baselines tighten and federal targets push toward 2030 emissions reduction and Net Zero goals, the demand for high-integrity ACCUs is surging.
MWO provides a range of tailored carbon solutions, including:

MWO hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) allowing trade of ACCUs.

Whether you’re a landowner looking to maximise land potential or an institutional investor seeking impactful environmental initiatives, MWO has the right carbon solution for you. Contact us here to discuss your individual requirements.
